Forklift machines are certainly not something foreign to those who are in the logistics world. Often referred to as a lift truck, a forklift does indeed function as material handling to move goods. Even though the logistics world is developing very rapidly, not everyone really understands how a forklift works properly.
Forklift Transmission Types
Not many know that the history of forklifts has been so long and more than 100 years. This machine was discovered for the first time in 1906 by the Pennsylvania Railroad in the form of a battery platform truck to move goods.
As the years passed, forklifts continued to develop to become a means of transportation as well as lifting objects.
Even now there are two types of transmission on forklifts, namely matic (automatic) and manual (gear). In order to be able to apply the proper workings of a forklift, it’s a good idea to know a brief review of the two types of transmission:
Automatic or Automatic Transmission
The forklift uses battery or battery power because it is environmentally friendly. In general, automatic forklifts are easier than manual forklifts, the only difference being the handle lever.
There are 5 handle levers for Forklift Matic, namely:
- Handle on the left steering wheel: For Forward and Reverse
- Handle on the right side of the steering wheel: for the function of the lights
- First Lever: To Go Up or Down
- Second Lever: To Pry
- Third Lever: To Swipe Right or Left
For the Matic Forklift, it is usually used in companies that are free of pollution or smoke such as Garment, Food Products, etc. Likewise with the wheels, there are 4 (four) wheels that are dead or not vacuum.
For the operation of the Forklift Matic it is very easy, on the lower Pedal as a Brake and Clutch, if you step on it means the Clutch is in Hold. If released means the brakes will work. If to run it only need to move the Handle forward or backward and there is no Gear (Gear).
Manual Transmission
Manual Forklifts use diesel fuel. Actually, there are a lot of artist according to their carrying capacity. There are capacities of 3 Tons, 5 Tons, and even 8 Tons more. The bottom pedal has Gas, Clutch and Brakes (Like a Car).
Usually used in Out Door, because it produces quite a lot of pollution from the exhaust. How to run it is a bit difficult because it is like running a car. Also Forklift Wheels that function to turn are behind, not in front.
For the rightmost handle, there are forward and reverse teeth, next to it there is a turtle image which means teeth 1. The image of a deer means teeth 2. Then for the left handle of the steering wheel there are up, down and gouging. The manual that distinguishes it is that there is no forward, backward and sliding lever, making it more difficult than the Forklift Matic.
Although there are two different types of transmission, basically the forklift parts are the same. Starting from the fork as a support for lifting goods that are shaped like a giant fork, then the carriage as a support for goods, the mast which is two thick pieces of iron that are connected to the hydraulic system on the forklift, and finally the overhead guard as a protection for the forklift driver.
How to Use Forklift
Many forklift machine operators think that operating a forklift is no different from operating a motor vehicle.
Is it true? Then you should know the following explanation of how a forklift works:
Forklifts have a fork and mast mounted on the backrest. Where the fork assembly is attached to one end of the chain and the outer mast beam. The chain will move along the pulley (wheel) at the top end of the piston rod in the lift cylinder
The pulley rotates because of the fluid pressure in the cylindrical lift so that one of the tied ends is attracted. The tensile force generated by this chain makes the backrest and fork lift up to a maximum height of three meters
So that the forklift can be operated stably and not lose balance, the forklift operator must be able to find the load center point.
Where if you really understand how a forklift works correctly, it means that the closer the item is to the forklift’s center of gravity, the more stable the forklift engine will be.
